FORMATTING THE MEMORY CARD :HOW TO TROUBLE SHOOTING CORRUPTED MEMORY CARD
HERE ARE STEP BY STEP METHODS FOR FORMATTING THE MEMORY CARD/MULTIMEDIA CARD/MMC CARD OF YOUR SERIES-60 SYMBIAN MOBILE USING CARD READER DEVICE IN PC.
If you have a memory card then a card reader is must.(It costs about Rs 150 in india.). B’coz using it we can transfer lot of stuffs from pc to mobiles/other gadgets and vice-versa in minutes.The MMC(Multi Media Card) is a type of memory card used by nokia.These methods will work for all types of memory cards.Memory cards may be corrupted due to some resons and would become useless untill we format it to a logical structure.
WHAT IF MY MEMORY CARD HAS FILES WITH VIRUSES
some viruses that can’t be killed has affected files in mmc then copy all files folder in mmc card(also hidden files) paste it any where in pc(for backup of multimedias only-then scan with good antivirus software like zonealarm security suite 6.1).Then format the mmc card using following procedure.Format phone memory(should hav backed up contacts).Now mmccard is ok again.(then copy back antivirus-scanned backed up files from that folder in pc to card).You can also use antivirus tools like norton and mcafee in your mobile.These softwares can be downloaded free only from our site by using search button in right.
FORMATTING IN MOBILE
For series 60 mobiles there is way to format a mmc card or multimedia card in mobile it self.It can be found in Menu->Extras->Memory where you can click Options->Format Memory Card.Then it’ll delete all datas and format it.(Here are many options like to name the card,to set a password-and iof your mmccard is not appearing on opening this then it’s corrupted and mobile is not recognising it.
USING FORMATTING SOFTWARES
If this did not worked then these 2 softs will format the mmc card that is put in memory card reader in pc/notepad.
INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT HOW TO USE THESE SOFTWARES ARE PROVIDED WITH THOSE.
SOFTWARE - MS DOS BATCH FORMATTER
SOFTWARE-MMC MEDIC
These softwares will ask you to enter datas like -size of mmc card - drive letter of windows representing mmc card (e.g.I drive in my case).Enter them and follow instructions.These softwares will also format corrupted cards.
USING DOS PROMPT
You can manually format it using dos commands like format K:(to format k drive-but this isn’t fat 16) and chkdsk (to check the status of drive k representing mmc card in card reader). The file system in which the memory card be formatted should be FAT 16.(if not fat 16 it’ll not be recognised by your mobile).
Dos command(type in command prompt–windows-startmenu->Run type there cmd press ok)
format i: /fs:FAT [then enter]
(in above command by default it’s fat16)
(Replace i with the drive letter for your memory card….)
IF AFTER ALL ABOVE PROCEDURES THE MMC CARD IS STILL CORRUPTED
1> You can refer to manual of your memory card reader and it’s software.Some memory card manufacturers (like apacer) provide a special corupted mmc card repair software with the device.That can repair the card perfectly. Download that from your manufacturer’s support sites.You may findgood solutions at those sites.
2> Also many memory card repair softwares are available for some bucks over internet.They can help u make your card usable.Search using “Google” (google my best friend)
3> Your card is physically unusable but don’t loose hope.Take it to a mobile shop ( computerised-nokia care is god one ) where latest techniques like grifin box service-cables are used.They can use those special devices to format it physically and it would work.
If still it is not usable it can not never be.So throw out get a new one.
