INCREASE THE CAPACITY OF THE MMC CARD
INCREASE THE CAPACITY OF THE MMC CARD-GET MORE SPACE FROM SAME MMCCARD WITHOUT DELETING ANY FILES.
Even 256 mb memory card won’t be showing 256 mb exactly and due to some technical reason it eats out a lot of space for nothing.Here i’ll provide trick about minimising such unused space and recover a lot of MMCcard space.
The files are stored in in MMC in terms of multiple blocks whose size is decided while formatting the MMC .
So if you format using 16K block, the space used will be 16K eventhough your file is just 1K.
Usually all the MMCs, are by default preformatted with 16K block. Therefore alot of space is wasted as most installed program files are usually less than 3K.But you can change this block size by again formatting the memory card in PC using a cardreader b’coz your mobile won’t allow you to change the block size wile formatting in mobile.(there is no such option)
U NEED A CARD READER TO DO THIS IN PC:-
1. Connect card reader and copy all your files in the MMC to computer disk. (Make sure you set the show all/hidden files/folders to “on” because system folder of mobile is hidden)
2.Do a format of the MMC using command line “format” and use the /A=size option.
Alternatively, you can use the Disk Management in Adminstrative Tools to format. Make sure you select FAT(not FAT32 or NTFS)(FAT means FAT 16 by default). For 256MB MMC, smallest block you can use is 4K, 128MB is 2K, 64Mb is 1K and 32MB is 512B.
(if u need mopre help on formatting MMC search with string “format MMC” or like that in first search button on right of this page)3. Copy back all files to MMC(that u copied from mmc before formatting).
Now you will find that you will have more space. 256mb MMC got back 30+ mb in my case.
