NOKIA FIRMWARE INFORMATION

To check the phones software’s firmware version (embedded software version) type code *#0000# on standby screen.(for some phone it may be 9999 instead of 0000)
You get the following information from it
V 05.53.0
30-12-04
NHL-10
Line 1 = The version of firmware or software(core part of the os for that mobile-but not symbian os version-also hardware changes with versions)
Line 2 = The date of the software release(your software is that much old)
Line 3 = Phone type (hardware)
Why is firmware version of mobile important?
Firmware version describes the capability of that phone. A mobile with latest version of firmware will be more capable as many new support has been added to the os for that phones.(in many cases hardwares are changed with versions to support new things). Suppose you have a phone named x of firmware version 3 you may not be able listen to mp3 format songs, but another guy with same mobile but with firmware version 5.5 can listen mp3 format songs and also he may get more sound. This depends on the manufacturer.
Why the firmware version of my phone is old and my friend has same mobile with higher version firmware?
Your mobile is older than that of your friend. Mobile phones purchased currently would have the firmware currently used by manufacturer and if you had purchased that before a year then your mobile has the the version firmware then used by manufacturer which has become old now as the same manufacturer is using new version of it’s old firmware for same device.
Can I upgrade my firmware?
Why can’t you! The firmware can be upgraded by installing some specific updates by the manufacturer but that would be temporary in the sense that they may not work after you did a complete format of cell phone but in most cases it stays. (i’m not sure as i’ve latest firmware version). Just go to the nearest nokia care (customer care and mobile workshop of nokia) in your city and they’ll upgrade it to the latest firmware by taking few $$(i don’t know rates). Ask them to backup your data while they do it b’coz many centeres don’t backup and erase d data. You can do that on your own by purchasing some nokia service tools like service cables griffin box and use them by connecting to computer and they would also give software to use those tools and download the system files (flashing files) that you need to update from any of the GSM forums (search in google for “gsm forum”).(also can be done in mobile workshops other than nokia care)

(in case of firmware nokia 6600 firmware is different from any other nokia firmwares and upgrading one would not result in the phone working as high as next higher phone.that is not possible but a different update which you’ll see in next post here-only software update is available at nokia’s site)
